What’s the Best Degree Path for a Career in Cloud Computing?

I'd skip the Cloud Technology degree. A Software Development degree combined with AWS or GCP certifications will give you more options while keeping your career goals aligned.

Computer Science or IT is typically recommended. However, once you gain experience, the degree becomes less significant. I have a background in Statistics and Economics, and I’m now a Cloud AI/ML Engineer. Interestingly, the best engineer I know majored in History!

I studied Information Systems, which strikes a nice balance between Computer Science and IT disciplines. I'd say either IS or CS works, but it's really about the skills you gather along the way. Learning languages like Go or others used for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) can be really beneficial and in demand right now.

If you have the right certifications and a degree in tech or engineering, the exact degree doesn't matter much. If I were starting over, I'd pick a degree that's broader and has more of a human element to it. Cloud technology might even get overtaken by AI by the time you finish your studies.

I'd suggest going for a degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science. Those degrees open up various IT fields you can explore, especially if you excel in them.
