What’s the Best GPU for an i9 10900K on a Budget?

My friend just got a PC with an Intel i9 10900K and 16GB of DDR4 RAM, but it doesn't have a GPU. I'm trying to help him figure out what graphics card would pair well without costing a fortune. I'm considering a 4070 Ti or something like the 4060, but I'm worried about potential bottlenecks or if there's a better option out there. We're looking at the used market since prices are steep here. Also, I don't want to get into the age of the GPU; I'm more focused on raw performance rather than the latest technologies like DLSS. Any suggestions?

Consider diving into the used market for a 30-series card! A 3070 will outperform the 4060/4060 Ti, and a 3080 is still an incredible choice. Plus, AMD cards like the RX 6800 are often cheaper and provide good performance, so keep an eye out for deals!

Don't forget about the power supply and monitor! It's not just about the CPU; a suitable GPU needs to match with what you're running.

I’d check the whole build soon, but all I know is the i9 10900K and 16GB of RAM. He's aiming for 1080p gaming with similar specs to an i5 12th gen and the 4060. I found a local 4060 Ti 16GB for $527—pricey, but it could be worth it.

Before anything, what's your exact budget? There are often deals on 30-series cards. You might find a 3080 for around $250 in some markets. It'll provide great performance for your friend's needs!

My budget's around $416, but things are expensive locally. I saw a 4060 for $361.

I did see a 5060 for $444 as well.

If you’re considering a 4070 Ti, check if the 4070 Ti Super is available; it has 4GB more VRAM and offers solid performance. I had one before upgrading and loved it, but make sure it's a good fit for your friend's 1080p gaming plans!

That sounds great, but my friend just wants something that can run well at 1080p without worrying too much about hardware. He's got an i5 12th gen with a 4060 and is impressed by its performance.

It’d help to know what he plans to do with the PC! If it's light gaming, a 5070 or 5060 Ti could work well. But if he’s aiming for 1080p gaming like Fortnite, then similar performance to the 4060 is key.

He just wants to play some light games, really. He liked the performance of a friend's setup with an i5 12th gen and a 4060.

I had an RTX 3090 with my i9 10900K, and it was a perfect match for heavy gaming. Just ensure you don’t exceed a 3080 or 4070 for preventing bottlenecks if you're gaming at 1440p.

Just a heads up; pairing a 4070 Ti with the i9 10900K feels like using a Ferrari engine in a Honda Civic—great, but maybe overkill. A 4070 Super or 4080 might give your friend the performance he needs without wasting CPU power.
