I'm looking to upgrade my GPU, moving on from the 1650 Super. Here are the options I'm considering, all used except for one:
- 6700 XT for $200
- 6800 XT for $320
- 7700 XT for $350
- 7800 XT for $380
- 3080 for $280
- 3080 Ti for $400
- 9060 XT (new) for $400
- 4070 for $420
- 4070S for $550
- 5060 Ti (slightly used) for $470
My budget is right around $400, and I'm hoping to get the best bang for my buck. I'm leaning towards the 9060 Ti but would love some ranking and opinions on these GPUs based on performance, especially for 1080p gaming with max settings at 60+ fps, ideally around 100 fps. I also want to experience ray tracing without breaking the bank. My current PC specs are as follows:
- Ryzen 5 5600
- MSI B550 Gaming Plus motherboard
- 16GB RAM
- 500GB SSD (planning to upgrade to 1TB soon)
- 650W PSU
- NZXT H510 case
I mostly play FPS games and some AAA titles. What do you all think? Which GPU should I prioritize?

I’d definitely recommend double-checking your PSU’s capability. 650W can be tight for high-end cards, especially the 3080. Some models require more pins for power, and lower-tier PSUs can struggle under full load. Make sure your case has solid airflow, too, since these cards run hot.
If you can snag the RTX 3080 for $280, that’s a steal—it offers amazing performance, just be wary of its power requirements. It's a powerful card, but it does draw a lot of juice, so your 650W PSU might struggle a bit. Performance-wise, it eclipses the 9060 XT by about 20 percent. Otherwise, the new 9060 XT is a solid choice if you want something future-proof.
I'm leaning towards the 9060 XT too. It's a really good mid-range option with decent ray tracing for lighter games. Just make sure to mod and use FSR where possible to get the best performance out of it—like in 'Shadow of the Tomb Raider' or 'Ghostrunner 2'.
I’ve played on a 9060 with ray tracing on some older titles, and it holds up well. Just don't expect magic in more demanding titles like 'Cyberpunk'; it can struggle even at 1080p.
Here’s my ranking based on performance and value under $400:
1. RX 9060 XT 16GB (new)
2. RTX 3080 (used, best ray tracing at this budget)
3. RX 7800 XT (used)
4. RX 6800 XT (used)
5. RX 7700 XT (used)
6. RTX 3080 Ti (used, high power/RT but pricey)
7. RX 6700 XT (best for budget 1080p)
If ray tracing is your ultimate goal, definitely consider the RTX 3080, but if you’re looking for a balanced option, the 9060 XT is hard to beat!

Yeah, I’ve heard similar about the power supply. It's a consideration, for sure. The 3080 is tempting but I’m unsure if I trust my PSU to handle it.
