What’s the Best Lightweight Distro for an Old Laptop?

Hey everyone! I have an old laptop from the Vista era that I'd love to recycle into a retro gaming machine. It's got a CD drive, which is something my ThinkPad lacks. I'm looking for a lightweight, user-friendly Linux distro that I can easily customize. I've considered Lubuntu and Bodhi Linux, and I might dual boot with Windows 7 or one of those Windows 10 LTSC mods that mimic Win 7. But I'm curious if there are better options out there? Here are the specs of my laptop:

- Intel Pentium T4200 (2 cores, 2 threads, 2.00 GHz)
- 2GB DDR3 + 1GB DDR2 (I think)
- 240GB SATA SSD

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Ubuntu Budgie has worked really well for me on older laptops. It’s not too heavy and still looks modern! Might be worth giving it a try.

I suggest sticking with Bodhi Linux and maybe adding RetroPie x86 for your gaming needs. It'll give you a cool retro gaming experience!

You might want to consider a distro that uses the XFCE desktop environment. It's lightweight but still offers a good user experience, perfect for older machines!

PuppyOS is one of the lightest distros I've seen! It might be a bit outdated, but it often runs on really low specs—though it's kind of closer to Windows XP in terms of what's required. Definitely worth checking out if you want something super lightweight!

Check out Q4OS with the Trinity desktop! It’s highly customizable, and you can find themes that give you a retro Windows feel, like XPQ4. This could be great for your project!
