I'm planning to switch to a Linux distro in October since Windows 10 support is ending, and I want to avoid moving to Windows 11. I mainly use my computer for gaming but also need to do some schoolwork and general tasks. Can anyone suggest a Linux distro that excels at gaming but still works well for everything else? Would Ubuntu be a good option for my needs?

Honestly, any distro will work. It mostly comes down to personal preference. Just pick one you're comfortable with!
I’ve been using Bazzite, and it’s awesome! But if you need something more general-purpose, it might need a bit more work compared to others. Mint is also a solid option for both gaming and daily use.
For gaming, especially with NVIDIA cards, I recommend checking out Proton for compatibility with games. Just make sure that you have the right drivers installed.
If you're into gaming, pretty much any popular Linux distro will do just fine. Ubuntu is a solid choice if you need general PC functionality alongside gaming. You shouldn't have any issues with it.
If you want to explore a variety of options, check out the distro selection page in the Linux wiki! It’ll help you compare different distros for gaming and general use.
