I'm trying to find the best Linux distribution for my tablet, which has an Intel Atom x5-Z8300 CPU and 2 GB of RAM. It currently runs a 32-bit system, but I've heard that hardware can work with a 64-bit OS as well. Any suggestions on which distro would work best for my setup?

You might want to check out postmarketOS—it’s designed for mobile devices and can handle your hardware quite well. Just a heads up, even though your CPU is actually 64-bit, it uses 32-bit firmware, so it could be a bit tricky if you want to switch to a 64-bit OS. But postmarketOS has some good mobile-friendly environments to try out!
If you're exploring options, you might also want to try using a Virtual Machine to test out different distros before committing. Just remember to back up your data regularly! There are plenty of resources out there to guide you through it.
Debian 12 is a solid choice! Even though a lot of distros are moving away from 32-bit support, Debian is still keeping it alive. Plus, you'll find it customizable to your needs! AntiX is also a good option if you're looking for something lighter.

Totally get what you mean about hardware limitations! It can be frustrating when manufacturers restrict capabilities.
