Hey everyone! I'm getting back into my blog, but I've been bouncing around different platforms and frameworks, trying to find the right fit. I initially thought about sticking with WordPress, since it's designed for blogging and gives me lots of customization options. However, it's been a couple of years since I've really used it, and I'm wondering if it can compete with newer frameworks. I've also tried a customized NextJS setup, but that seems too complex for what I need right now.
I looked at Medium as a no-fuss option, but the lack of customization is a bit of a deal-breaker plus I think paid features aren't worth it when I could be coding. I briefly considered Shopify for potential merchandise sales, but I've heard it's not effective for blogging. So I'm really curious—what are your thoughts? Any recommendations for a long-term blogging platform?

If you're looking for something straightforward, I'd recommend trying Hugo or Jekyll. They’re super fast and great for blogging, but if you're looking for a more interactive experience, maybe Astro could suit you. I’m rebuilding things in Astro right now—it’s more fun than just writing, honestly!
Honestly, you can't go wrong with WordPress. A well-made theme can take your blog far without needing all those flashy plugins. Focus on determining what you want your blog to do and seek out the stack that fits that need. Over-the-top frameworks like NextJS might be overkill when you simply want to write.
While I see your point about WordPress, platforms like Medium, Facebook, or Twitter have advantages in visibility. Sometimes plain customization isn’t as important as reach!
Totally agree! Once you have it built, you can develop a better setup. Maybe even learn Go for those speedy Hugo compile times!
