What’s the Best Source for a Reliable Ryzen 9 5000 Series CPU?

I'm in a bit of a bind after a tough experience with some used parts. I recently bought a used motherboard and CPU that just didn't work well for me, leading to several sleepless nights. My previous setup was plagued with blue screen errors for an entire year, so I'm understandably cautious now.

Currently, I have 64GB of SK Hynix RAM but can't afford the skyrocketing RAM prices, so I'm sticking with the AM4 platform. I know the Ryzen 5950X is the top dog, but I'm struggling to find one that's reliable and not sketchy. Should I just bite the bullet and buy directly from AMD, or can I safely pick up a used one from places like Amazon or Walmart? Also, when it comes to advanced video editing and creative work, would the 5900X be a better option?

I'm also weighing whether I should return my current motherboard and CPU (costing around $200) or try to sell them locally for a bit more cash towards the 5950X. Is my plan sound, or am I better off considering the AM5 platform instead? Any insights would be appreciated! Thanks!

When you say 'not sketchy,' what exactly do you mean? Where are you looking to buy these processors? I have a Ryzen 5950X setup, and I built it right before the 7000 series launched—you shouldn't have any issues with it. Just ensure you're buying from a reputable source.

The reviews on Amazon suggest that some of the cheaper listings are for low voltage units, which can underperform or even fry if overclocked. I just don’t want to deal with the hassle of returning faulty parts again. What’s a fair price for the 5950X in your opinion?
