What’s the Best Storage Setup for My New Gaming PC?

I'm in the process of building my second PC and I'm a bit unsure about the best storage configuration. Should I go for one M.2 drive paired with a SATA SSD, or is it better to just invest in a larger M.2 drive to handle everything? Any advice would be appreciated!

There’s no one-size-fits-all “optimal” setup. Having a single larger drive can simplify things since you won't have to manage files across multiple drives. However, remember that if that drive fails, you risk losing all your data. It’s always a good idea to back up important files!

I'd suggest just going with one big NVMe SSD. They're much faster and have dropped in price considerably lately. Plus, you can always add more storage down the line if you need it!

Honestly, there's not much point in using SATA SSDs anymore. They're slower and not significantly cheaper than NVMe drives. If you're looking for larger mass storage, traditional HDDs are still the best for non-performance-critical files. For everything else, stick with NVMe!

If you have multiple NVMe slots, there's really no reason to consider SATA SSDs right now. Going with NVMe is definitely the way to go for both performance and space!
