What’s the Best Upgrade for 1080p 120fps Gaming?

I'm currently running a Ryzen 5 5600 and a 3060 Ti with 32GB of DDR4 RAM, but I'm aiming for 1080p resolution at 120fps on max settings. I've noticed that the 3060 Ti is kind of lagging behind, typically hitting 60 to 90fps on medium to high settings, but not quite max. I'm weighing my options: should I upgrade my CPU and GPU on the AM4 platform, or is it time to jump to an AM5 build?

Check out Techpowerup's benchmarks for max settings—they provide a solid comparison of GPUs. You might want to consider the RX 9070; it looks promising! But remember, you'll also need to think about the CPU that matches it. A balanced upgrade is key if you're going for 120fps at max settings.

Honestly, I don't think you need to rush for an upgrade. It sounds like you might be expecting too much from your current setup. Most games don’t show a huge difference between 90 and 120fps, especially when you think about the visual returns. Maybe it's worth waiting for the next GPU generation instead of upgrading now.

You make a good point about expectations! It's super easy to get caught up in 'upgradeitis.' If you're content with mid to high settings for now, a wait might be worth it to save some cash.
