Hi everyone! I've been thinking about upgrading my gaming rig which is a few years old now, and I'm considering a new GPU. I currently have an ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 and I'm looking at options like the 3060 or 3060 Ti. Here are my system specs for context:
- **GPU**: ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 8GB
- **Motherboard**: MSI MEG X570 UNIFY AM4
- **CPU**: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
- **RAM**: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB
- **PSU**: CORSAIR RM750x 750W
- **Cooler**: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
- **SSD**: SAMSUNG 970 EVO 500GB
- **HDD**: WD Black 2TB
- **Display**: Acer Nitro VG270 27" 1080p 144Hz
I'd love to hear your thoughts! Is the GPU truly the limiting factor, or should I be considering any other upgrades as well? Thanks in advance!

It sounds like your GPU is definitely the weak link here. Upgrading to something like the RX 6800 XT or RTX 3060 Ti would make a noticeable difference and let you play most games on high settings without a hitch. Your CPU is solid, so I'd just focus on the GPU for now and see how that improves things.
Honestly, I’d recommend trying out the RX 6800 XT. Your CPU shouldn’t be thermal throttling with the 212 cooler, but it might be worth checking. If you're looking for a cheaper upgrade, consider a Ryzen 5 5600, but the focus should certainly be on the GPU.
I’d definitely look at something newer than a 3000 series card if your budget allows. If you can snag a 4000 series for a good price, that'd be great too! Even my old 2080 Ti still holds up very well with current games.
If you're open to options, I would suggest the RX 6800 or the RTX 3060 Ti. No need to go for a two-generation-old GPU unless you find an amazing deal. These newer models will give you the performance boost you’re looking for.
You could upgrade to a 5800 XT or 5900 XT. A jump to the 7000 series would revitalize your setup and let you run modern games with ease.
