What’s the Best Upgrade for My Xeon X99 and GTX 1060 Setup?

Hey everyone! I've bumped my budget up to 180 (R1,000) and I'm looking for guidance on the most impactful upgrade for my current setup in Brazil. Here are my specs:

- CPU: Xeon E5-2620 v3
- Motherboard: Qiyida X99 (2 slots)
- GPU: GTX 1060 6GB
- RAM: 16GB DDR4

I'm aiming to reduce stuttering and boost my FPS. Would it be wise to upgrade to a Xeon E5-2667 v4 and use the rest of my budget to invest in a better GPU, like selling my GTX 1060 for an RX 6600? Alternatively, should I consider switching to a Ryzen platform? What's the smartest route to take here? Thanks!

Going for the RX 6600 sounds like a solid choice, but don't forget about your CPU as well. Upgrading that is important because if you stick with your older platform, you might not fully benefit from the new GPU since it'll likely be bottlenecked. Just keep an eye on how you budget for both components because the AM4 isn't cheap to get into, but it can really boost your performance overall.

If you're set on gaming with more modern titles, you might want to rethink your entire build. With your current CPU dating back to 2014, it might not handle newer games well. Just upgrading the GPU could leave you with a bottleneck due to an underpowered CPU, leading to bad performance and stuttering.

I'd suggest steering clear of anything older than the Ryzen 5000 series or Intel's 12th generation for CPUs. As for GPUs, something like the RX 9600 XT or a comparable NVIDIA card would work much better. But of course, it depends on your specific budget and the games you want to play.

Thanks for the feedback! Just to clarify, hardware prices in Brazil are super high—like a Ryzen 5 5600 plus B550 board costs nearly twice what I have. So, I’m opting to upgrade my Xeon for now. If I switch to the E5-2667 v4, do you think it’ll pair well with an RX 6600 for 1080p/60fps gaming?

If you stick with the E5-2667 v4, you might actually find a decent balance, especially since you're planning to upgrade the GPU as well.

I own an E5-2667 v4 and it works great for me! Consider looking at the E5-2690 v4 or E5-2680 v4 as well; they are solid options that perform well and could give you the upgrade you need!
