What’s the Best Upgrade Path for My GTX 1660 Ti and Ryzen 2700X?

Hey everyone! I'm looking for some solid advice on upgrading my PC. Currently, I'm using a GTX 1660 Ti and a Ryzen 2700X processor, along with 16GB of RAM on a microATX motherboard that has only two RAM slots. My budget for upgrades is around $1650 CAD. I use my PC for a range of tasks, including 1440p gaming, high-end emulation, photo and video editing, digital drawing, 3D modeling, and music creation. I even want to try game development in the future, so I'm aiming for a well-rounded machine.

I initially planned to move to the AM5 platform by upgrading to a Ryzen 7700X, and later on, bumping up to 32GB of RAM and an RX 9060XT. For now, I'd stick with 16GB of DDR5 RAM and keep using my GTX 1660 Ti, since I can't afford to replace everything at once. I also want a new case to accommodate an ATX motherboard for additional SSD slots. My plan is to complete the upgrade in stages, but I'm worried about potential price increases.

Alternatively, I'm considering upgrading my current setup to a Ryzen 5950X paired with an RX 9070XT. However, I'm not sure if this is the best route since I could gradually upgrade to AM5 over the year.

So, should I go for the Ryzen 7700X, RX 9060XT, and 32GB DDR5 over the next year, or revamp my AM4 parts with a Ryzen 5950X and RX 9070XT for a mix of gaming and productivity? I'm also open to alternative suggestions!

It really depends on your needs. If you're mainly gaming, you could get by with a 5700X and allocate more of your budget towards a better GPU. The performance differences between Ryzen chips like the 5600, 5700, 5900, and 5950 are often pretty minimal, so focus on getting a good GPU since that's where you'll see the biggest impact on your gaming.

Yeah, and for GPU, if your software uses CUDA, going for an Nvidia card might be the way to go. If not, the RX 9070XT would handle gaming really well.

Since you have a B450 motherboard, you might want to consider a Ryzen 5700X paired with the best GPU you can afford after that. It sounds like your usage is pretty balanced between gaming and productivity, so make sure the GPU you pick aligns with your main usage. A 16GB RTX 5060 Ti may be good if you're into video editing or programs that need CUDA, otherwise the RX 9070XT is also great for gaming.

Totally! Just remember you can always upgrade components later. It sounds like you're on the right track with your plans.
