What’s the Best Upgrade Path for My Ryzen 5 5600X Setup?

I'm currently running a build with a Ryzen 5 5600X, 16 GB of RAM, and an RTX 4070. I'm looking to upgrade my CPU and bump my RAM up to 32 GB. The x3D AM4 chips are crazy overpriced since they've ended production, and DDR4 RAM prices are skyrocketing too, just like DDR5. I'm thinking the smartest option might be to get a newer generation CPU along with new DDR5 RAM. Do you think the CPU+motherboard+32 GB RAM bundles at Microcenter offer fair pricing and would provide a significant upgrade over my current 5600X? Also, I've seen some prebuilt systems that I could swap my GPU into, like the one with the Ryzen 7 8700F, but I'm concerned about the CPU not being a decent upgrade for gaming. Any advice would be awesome!

What motherboard are you currently using? I'm thinking of a similar upgrade and could use some insights on compatibility and performance.

I would suggest checking out this build if you're looking at options: [PCPartPicker List](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jYk3HW) — it aligns with what you're after. In the meantime, if you're gaming at 1440p or higher, your 5600X shouldn't be slowing down your system too much. Consider getting more RAM, as that might give you a noticeable boost.

Good point! Often, just upgrading RAM and getting a better monitor can make a huge difference if you're facing bottlenecks at 1080p.

Honestly, you're upgrading at a tricky time with prices all over the place. The bundles from Microcenter look somewhat okay given the market conditions. However, be cautious of going for a prebuilt with an 8700F; it's not really going to boost your performance compared to your 5600X. It might be better to sit tight for now if you can.

If you're considering buying from Microcenter, the x3D bundles are definitely worth a look. Spec-wise, the 7800x3D for $650 seems like the best value if you're focused on gaming, while the 9800x3D at $750 would give you top-notch performance. Either option would be a solid step up from your 5600X.

Just to throw it out there, unless you're playing at 1080p, your 5600X shouldn't be the bottleneck. Invest in a 1440p monitor and more RAM instead. You’ll notice a big jump in graphics without spending a fortune for a slight CPU upgrade.
