What’s the Best Way to Cool My CPU for My New Build?

I'm about to build my first PC and I'm really excited! Here are the specs I'm working with: RTX 5080, Ryzen 9800X3D, Gigabyte B850 Eagle, 32GB DDR5 RAM, a 2TB SSD, and a 1000W Platinum PSU. I'm curious if I need an AIO cooler to keep everything running cool, or if a heatsink and CPU fan would suffice. Also, the case I'm looking at has 3 fans included. Do you think I need to add more fans, or will that be enough?

It really depends on how your fans are oriented in the case. If you share the case model, we could help you figure out the best airflow setup. A tower cooler like the Peerless Assassin or Phantom Spirits will do a great job. AIOs offer better cooling, but if your room is usually cool, you might be fine with air cooling. If you're pushing the CPU hard with productivity tasks, it might be worth considering an AIO.

With the Ryzen 9800X3D, which has a 120W TDP, a solid tower cooler is totally adequate. The Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 has become a go-to because it easily handles the TDP and is affordable, usually around £40. If you prefer water cooling, brands like Corsair and EK make good AIOs, but remember, they do require more maintenance. Regarding case fans, two intake at the front and one exhaust at the back should work, but I personally like to add a couple more for better airflow.

You definitely don't need to go for an AIO. A good dual tower cooler will work just fine! The Phantom Spirit 120 SE is pretty popular. As for the fans in your case, putting your specs in a site like PCPartPicker could help you see if you need more fans, but generally, 3 fans should be sufficient depending on their layout.
