I work in tech and inevitably end up with a massive collection of cables, from various lengths of HDMI to tiny connectors and converters. I regularly sift through and discard low-quality USBs and other consumer-grade items, but I still have a solid number of legacy cables that I keep for rare occasions. Seeing tech storage rooms filled with tangled cables makes me cringe. I'm curious if anyone has found effective systems for cable storage. I've considered cable storage wallets, but I'm not sure how many they can really hold or if they'd work for less flexible cables like HDMI or CAT6. I'd love to hear about any solutions that have worked well for you!

I store mine in plastic bins in the basement. I've got video, audio, speaker, and USB cables sorted out. If component video cables make a comeback, I'm all set!
For larger cables, I repurpose shoe hangers—either the type that go in the closet or over the door. I find it works well for smaller cables too!
I use Rubbermaid Roughneck 7-gallon tubs for my cables. They’re sturdy and keep everything contained!
I keep my cables in Ziplock bags and write the length on each bag. They’re sorted by type, but somehow, I still end up with a giant box of tangled cables. I guess laziness has its price! 😂
I have a box filled with old cables that I sometimes need. I try to cull them occasionally but like to keep a few just in case. Recently I needed a fiber optic cable, but ended up not needing it after getting a new stereo.

I actually have a crate where I sort outdated cables into Manila envelopes. It's not perfect, but it helps keep things organized.
