What’s the Best Way to Power the MSI 5090 Liquid GPU?

I'm trying to figure out the safest way to power my MSI 5090 Liquid GPU. The instructions say to use four separate PCIe cables from the power supply unit (PSU) into the 12VHPWR adapter that came with the GPU. But I've been hearing that it's better to use the 12V-2x6 cable that came with my Corsair HX1200i PSU instead. Can anyone clarify which method is best? I'm a bit confused because the 12VHPWR adapter uses four cables, while the alternative only uses two, so how can they provide the same power? Any advice on how to plug this in safely?

You should be able to power the GPU with a single 12V cable from your PSU. It’s generally advised not to use that 12VHPWR adapter to avoid any risks. Just to be on the safe side, make sure to undervolt the 5090 after you install it to prevent potential damage to the power cable. Better safe than sorry!

I looked into it, and it seems your PSU should have a specific 12V cable available. Just double-check your PSU. If it doesn't have it, you might be right about using the adapter. However, using a Y-split cable to connect to the 12V plug should work too. Given your PSU’s output, you should be alright if you decide to undervolt right after installation. Just steer clear of that original GPU adapter if you can!

Thanks for the clarification! I’ll check the PSU again and consider the undervolting idea.
