What’s the Best Way to Split a Large PST File Safely?

Hey folks! I've been using Outlook for a few years, and my PST file has ballooned to about 20-25 GB. It's starting to slow everything down, and sometimes Outlook freezes when I try to open it or search through my emails. I'm considering splitting the PST file into smaller pieces, but I'm a bit concerned about doing it safely without losing any emails or messing up my folder structure. I've tried archiving, but that doesn't really help since I still need access to older emails on a regular basis. Has anyone dealt with this situation? Is there a reliable manual method to split the PST, or do most people just use a tool? Also, does splitting impact performance over time? I'd really appreciate any tips or experiences you can share!

Honestly, 25 GB isn't that large for a PST file. Before you split it, I suggest running the scanpst tool, as it can help check for issues. Just be cautious—you might want to back everything up before trying it.

Scanpst can be hit or miss, though. I've had bad luck with it before!

Yeah, I’ve seen PST files go up to 125 GB! So, consider if splitting is really necessary.

One solid method is to load your PST file in Outlook and then manually copy emails to new PST files. Just be patient—it might look like Outlook is freezing, but it usually is still working in the background. It can take some time, so don’t rush it!

Yeah, I experienced that too. Just give it some time, and it'll get there!

For sure, patience is key when you're copying large amounts!
