I'm planning a 24-hour drive home and I'm taking my PC with me. I want to ensure it arrives in one piece, and I've heard it's a good idea to remove the GPU for transportation. The problem is, I've never done that before and I'm worried about causing any damage! My plan is to pack the interior of the PC with expanding packaging and lay it flat on the back seat, but I could also keep it upright with the passenger seat pushed back. Do you think removing the GPU is really necessary? If I leave it in, could the packaging shift and harm it? I'll be keeping the PC in its original box for the journey, so I'm looking for the safest method.

I frequently move my PC, and I've had good luck with a heavier water-cooled GPU. If your GPU is mounted in a standard way, try lying the PC flat with the glass facing up, and pad it well for extra protection. If it's vertically mounted, keep it upright instead. Just make sure the GPU is at the top to avoid any bending in the PCIe slot during the drive.

How long is your drive, by the way?
