I'm looking to upgrade my PC since it's about 7 years old, and I want to improve my gaming experience. I currently play FPS games like CS2 and PUBG but only get around 100fps and 80-90fps, respectively. Here are my current specs:
- Processor: Ryzen 7 2700 with stock air cooler
- Motherboard: MSI B450 Gaming Plus
- RAM: 16GB DDR4 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro
- GPU: Nvidia GTX 1660ti MSI Gaming X
- Storage: 2TB m.2 SSD, plus other drives
- Power Supply: either 650W or 750W

I don't have a budget set yet, but I want to know which components I should prioritize upgrading first.

For boosting your FPS, I recommend starting with a new CPU and cooler. Upgrading to something like the Ryzen 7 5800XT can get you at least 50% better performance in CPU-intensive games like CS2. Pair that with a decent cooler, and you should see a nice improvement. If your budget allows, consider upgrading your GPU later with something like the RX 9060XT for even better performance.

I second this approach, definitely prioritize the CPU! Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion! Quick question—will I need to update my motherboard's BIOS for the 5800XT?

I'd advise you to tackle the CPU and GPU upgrades first. A 5700X or 5700X3D would really help your performance, especially in games like CS2. Keep in mind that depending on your budget, you might find a good deal on those.

Absolutely. Upgrading the CPU is crucial for CS2; your current setup is showing its age!

Thanks! I’ll look into getting a new CPU soon!

Your GPU and CPU definitely need an upgrade, and while your RAM is fine for now, consider increasing to 32GB later if possible. For GPUs, aim for the 9060XT 8GB for about $270, as it delivers great performance for your games. For CPUs, either a 5600X or the pricier 5700X3D are good choices. No need for a PSU upgrade with these changes, so that's a plus!

Thanks so much for the detailed advice!
