Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice on how to effectively upgrade my PC. Right now, I'm playing the BF6 Beta and I've noticed that my CPU is nearly maxed out. Is it time for a CPU upgrade, or could the load be caused by something else? I'm particularly interested in whether I should prioritize upgrading my GPU instead of the CPU since I feel the GPU might be the bottleneck. What should I be focusing on during an upgrade — things like clock speed and cores? I'd appreciate any recommendations or insights you might have! Here are my current specs:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600x
- GPU: RTX 3060Ti
- RAM: 32GB DDR4
I play a variety of games including League, Cyberpunk, Bloons BTD6, and BF6, so I'm looking for balanced performance.

I’d suggest upgrading both your CPU and GPU when you can. The AMD 5700X3D is a solid choice for gaming on the AM4 platform! It’ll definitely give you a boost in performance.
In gaming, the GPU usually has a greater impact compared to the CPU, unless you're into simulation games or need super high refresh rates. Just a heads up, GPUs can be pricey! I recently did a build where the GPU alone was over half the total cost of my setup. Keep in mind that upgrading the graphics card may require a new power supply too. Also, considering moving to a newer platform (like AM5) might not raise the total costs much compared to just upgrading your GPU.
Since games like League and Bloons aren't too demanding, you might not feel the need to upgrade right away for those. However, BF6 can really strain the CPU, so if that’s your main game, consider a GPU upgrade first. Since your AM4 board is getting old, think about future-proofing with a better GPU now, and save for a full system upgrade later. If you need a CPU upgrade fast, maybe look at a cheaper Ryzen 5000 model like the 5600X just for the short term.
What's your budget looking like? That would help narrow down the best options for upgrades.
BF6 does max out a lot of CPUs, especially in beta testing. It could be worth waiting for the official release before making any decisions on upgrades, just in case they fix the performance issues for CPUs.
