What’s the Best Way to Upgrade My RAM: 2x8GB or 2x16GB?

Hey everyone! I built my current PC around three years ago and I'm still quite satisfied with it, so I'm not looking for any major overhauls. However, I've been thinking about a small RAM upgrade, particularly moving from 16GB to 32GB since it seems like a cost-effective way to boost my performance. My setup includes an RTX 3060, an Intel i7 10700k running at 3.8GHz, and I'm using 2x8GB of 3600MHz Corsair RAM on an Asus PRIME Z590-P motherboard.

Here's what I'm trying to figure out: should I just add two more 8GB sticks to make it 4x8GB, or would it be better to replace my current sticks with 2x16GB? I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thanks for taking the time to read this!

I hear you on the RAM upgrade! Dual channel RAM setup does tend to be more stable, but I've personally been running 48GB in a mix of 2x16GB and 2x8GB without any issues. If all your RAM is of the same speed, you might not face any problems either! Just keep in mind that dual channel setups are statistically better when it comes to performance.

That's interesting! So do you think using mismatched RAM affects performance much? I always thought it was better to have uniform sticks.

That's a solid question! If you’re mostly gaming, going for 32GB can definitely help, especially with background applications running. Going from 16GB to 32GB is noticeable right from boot-up, as I experienced the same when I upgraded. Just remember, more RAM can improve performance even if it's just a slight increase!

Definitely! Even if it seems like a small jump, the difference in multitasking and loading times can be huge when you add RAM.
