What’s the Difference Between Reinstalling Windows Locally and Downloading It?

I'm trying to reset my Windows 11 and I'm at the point where I need to choose between two options: "Reinstall Windows from this device" and "Download and reinstall Windows". After selecting the option to remove everything for a local reinstall, I'm confused about the differences between these two choices. The first option seems to suggest it's using the recovery partition on my hard drive, while the second sounds like it would download the necessary files. The message about downloading Windows makes it sound like I might lose my current OS and have to reinstall it myself, but both options indicate that Windows will be reinstalled. Can anyone clarify what the actual differences are? Thanks in advance!

The main difference between reinstalling from your device and downloading is the source of the files. When you select the local reinstall, it uses the recovery partition that already exists on your hard drive. You'll likely have to go through some updates afterward. On the other hand, the download option pulls everything from Microsoft's servers, so you might end up with a more recent version, but it also means it's pulling everything fresh from the internet. Some people prefer downloading because it can include newer updates and fixes right from the start.

I've heard that the built-in reset function in Windows can be pretty buggy, so I usually recommend going for a clean install instead. The recovery partition might not have the latest updates, and there's always a chance something could go wrong with the local reinstall. Just my two cents, but it seems safer to download directly!
