I've noticed that many roles these days are hybrid, but I'm curious about what people think regarding the future of fully remote positions specifically in DevOps and Cloud. Are these roles here to stay or are we seeing a shift back to in-office work?

I think the future mostly favors web-based services without a need for physical offices, like crypto and similar projects. However, many remote jobs might not pay as well as traditional roles. It's likely we’ll see companies outsourcing to keep costs low.

There will definitely still be remote roles available, especially with startups and companies looking for top talent without geographical restrictions. Just a heads-up though, competition will be tougher since you'll be up against candidates from all over the world.

Our SRE team has been remote for years and it works really well for us, even though we’re spread across different countries. It does make collaboration challenging at times due to time zone differences, but the flexibility is great.

There’s actually a noticeable increase in fully remote roles compared to before COVID. Larger corporations may still push towards RTO (return to office) models because of real estate concerns, but smaller businesses can take advantage of remote work without the same overhead.

Saying you'll work fully remote forever is a bit unrealistic. It’ll probably end up like it was pre-pandemic—with very selective companies offering remote options, typically for high-value roles, but not everyone will have that luxury.
