I recently got an Acer Swift 3 in mid-2020, and after heavy use and even a drop, it still works fine. I'm curious about how long a typical modern laptop lasts. How long have your laptops lasted?

Mine from 2016 is still kicking. I upgraded the RAM and added an SSD, and it’s great for basic tasks like IT work and streaming. You might get a few years more if you take care of it, but watch for things like a failing battery or hardware needing an update for new software.
I've got a desktop that's over 10 years old and still works after a few upgrades. My Surface Pro 4 also needs a battery replacement but is still running strong. Some parts, like batteries, are more likely to fail, so it really depends on how you use it. Just because something starts to show wear doesn’t mean it’s time to toss it!
It's hard to pin down a specific lifespan. A lot depends on the components themselves—batteries start to degrade over time, which can be a major issue. Some folks are dealing with planned obsolescence, like how Microsoft puts pressure on older systems with end-of-life support. But in general, a good laptop can last around 5 to 10 years if well cared for. Just be sure you have backups of your data!
Totally agree! If you keep upgrading with RAM and SSDs, it can last a while, especially for basic tasks.
