Hey everyone! I'm just starting my journey into computer science at university, but I've been hearing a lot of concerning things. There's buzz about programmers being replaced by AI and a drop in job opportunities after the pandemic. I've noticed that in my country, many folks are struggling to land jobs and are advising others against pursuing computer science. How serious are these issues for new programmers like me? Is the global job market really that bad?

Honestly, it's hard to say. The job market can fluctuate, and only time will tell how things shake out for new programmers.
It really depends on who you talk to. Some forums are filled with the worst-case scenarios—like people who can't find jobs tend to be the loudest. On the flip side, those actually employed are usually too busy to complain. Keep that in mind and don’t let the negative voices discourage you!
It’s not a one-size-fits-all answer. Some areas are booming, and AI isn’t as impactful as you might think. Outsourcing has affected high-wage tech jobs more significantly. I’ve seen people without degrees secure great jobs simply through networking. So, while it’s a mixed bag, there are definitely still opportunities out there—just be aware of how local factors play into it!
In Pakistan, things are actually improving! There’s a growing demand for tech skills, so it’s not bleak everywhere.
From my perspective, the situation isn’t too bad, but not amazing either. A lot comes down to networking. In my experience, people who know the right folks tend to get better job opportunities. Skills matter, of course, but trust and connections can be even more important. If you’re heading to university, make sure to get involved—join hackathons, land internships, and level up your skills outside of classes!
It’s pretty bad across the board right now with massive layoffs happening in various sectors, not just tech.

Totally agree! It's all about finding the right sources of information.
