What’s the situation with laptop chip availability right now?

I've been struggling to find AMD Ryzen 370 or 375 laptop chips over the past few weeks. It's like every configuration featuring those CPUs has vanished from the Lenovo store, and our usual suppliers aren't able to ship them either. Some other options are around, but the prices have shot up a lot. To save money for our business, we're picking up small quantities whenever we see a sale—even though it's not the most efficient way to do things. I'd love to hear if others, especially in larger companies, are experiencing the same issues. We're a smaller operation and don't have strong ties to the manufacturers directly.

I work at a big company, and we've had to freeze replacing end-of-life laptops. Looks like this issue is only going to get worse. I feel like the AI hype bubble might burst alongside these supply challenges.

We're doing okay with our quotes from Dell; they're higher, but not panic-inducing like some folks thought. Just make sure to shop around—pricing can vary drastically based on who you ask!

I had a conversation this week with my account rep, who mentioned a 20-30% increase for Dell systems starting in April.

I’ve heard that too; the reality isn’t as grim for us as some online chatter suggests.

We preemptively ordered a bunch of Thinkpads when we caught wind of the supply issues. I believe prices might stay elevated for at least two years—seems like a safe bet!

We’re hearing from our vendor that all laptop prices are set to jump another 50% soon. It’s about to get rough out there!

No kidding, it seems like every week the prices just keep rising without warning.

I've noticed the same thing! Just this year, prices for our Dell configurations have skyrocketed by 40% to 150%, which is nuts compared to the usual 3-5% hikes we used to see. Key components like RAM and CPUs are in short supply, so it’s no surprise that the prices are climbing. We’re actually thinking about switching to Macs since they seem to have a bit more leeway right now until they feel the crunch too.

That's true, but I heard MacBook orders are now taking almost two months to arrive. Just a couple of months ago, they were shipping in a week. Seems like Apple is feeling the heat as well.

Make sure to use the Apple Business Manager at checkout with your VAR. It’ll help with onboarding in the meantime!
