What’s up with Flatpak being so slow to install apps?

I'm having a frustrating experience with Flatpak. For example, I tried to download the Hytale launcher, which was shown as 22 MB in the Discover software center. However, it took me about 10 minutes to install and failed twice during that time. This isn't just a one-off issue; anything I try to download with a .flatpak ends up being really slow. My internet speed was around 2MB/s the whole time, but curiously, the progress bar starts around 70% for some reason. Can anyone shed some light on why this happens? I'm genuinely trying to understand this issue.

Your download mirror might be rate limiting your connection due to security measures. This is common these days, especially with DDoS attacks. If you're on Arch, you can try using rate-mirrors to find a better download mirror. For Debian or Ubuntu, there are guides available on how to switch your mirror location that might help speed things up!

Just a heads up, that advice about mirrors isn’t really applicable to Flatpak specifically. It’s more about the repository settings for APT or Pacman.

It might be the servers you're downloading from. I just downloaded some stuff a few hours ago on my Nobara setup, and it was really quick. Sometimes the mirrors can be slow, so if you’re facing consistent issues, it could be worth checking that out!

Make sure you don’t have a VPN on while downloading. That can cause issues with Flatpak updates and downloads too. Just a quick tip!
