What’s up with pending and uncorrectable sectors in CrystalDiskInfo?

I had a bit of a scare with my PC while transferring data; it froze and I had to force shut it down. Afterward, Windows warned me about a drive issue, and CrystalDiskInfo showed me some concerning details. Can anyone explain what the 'current pending sector count' and 'uncorrectable sector count' mean? I heard it's not a good idea to let Windows attempt to fix the drive - is that true? I bought this drive last year, and while Best Buy might offer a free replacement due to my 3-year warranty, I'm dreading the time it'll take to re-download all my games.

If you're seeing pending and uncorrectable sectors, that's usually a sign your hard drive is failing. Don't bother trying to repair the filesystem since the underlying hardware issues can't be fixed that way. You might have some data corruption, but if the drive still mounts, make sure to back up your important files before you proceed with a warranty claim. It’s better to be safe!

That’s rough man, especially after spending $300! Usually, when you start seeing those signs, it can be a few months to a year before the drive completely fails, but it really varies. The fact that you only have 1 sector showing as pending and uncorrectable might give you a bit more time, but definitely prioritize your backups!
