I'm gearing up to build my first PC, and I'm noticing that the prices for GPUs are pretty steep right now. For instance, the RTX 2070 is going for about $600, while the 4070 is around $900! Is this normal? Have GPU prices always been this high, or is there hope for them to drop in the future? It honestly feels like buying a prebuilt system might be cheaper at this point.

We're definitely in a rough patch with GPU pricing, and unfortunately, it doesn't seem like things will improve anytime soon. It's pretty disheartening. Just hang in there!
The RTX 2070 is considered end of life since late 2019, and the 4070 hasn’t been manufactured since about October of last year. Basically, their prices are unlikely to drop because they're turning into collector's items now. On the bright side, the new RTX 5070 is around $600 and it's faster than the 4070! You might also want to check out the RX 9070, which goes for about $650. If you're leaning towards budget, prebuilt systems are a solid route since they often use older cards that nobody wants anymore. The GPU market isn’t as dire as it was during the whole crypto craze, but any changes in tariffs could affect prices. Just something to keep in mind!
Thanks for that tip on the 5070! Do you have any recommendations for a CPU to pair with it? I want to play Oblivion Remastered.
How long have things been this way?
