When Will RAM Prices Start to Go Down?

I've been out of the PC hardware scene since I built my rig back in 2022, but unfortunately, my RAM (32GB DDR5) has now failed. When I bought it, I paid around 150 CAD, but now I see that prices for the same kit are skyrocketing to 600-700 CAD! I've tried everything to revive it, but no luck—my PC keeps freezing in UEFI or during boot. I've heard about AI trends affecting memory prices, but this is shocking. Is this price hike just how things are now in 2026? Will RAM prices ever become manageable again?

You know, with how things are going, I wouldn’t expect prices to change much. Even if they drop slightly, manufacturers usually won’t bring them back down to what they were—just not how it works anymore.

Honestly, I think RAM prices will stabilize at this level for a while. The production isn't ramping up and demand is still high due to ongoing server needs for AI. It could be a long wait before we see any drops. I'd say keep your expectations low for the next couple of years.

You could always check if your RAM is still under warranty. Brands like G.Skill often have pretty good coverage. If you're lucky, you might get a replacement and save yourself a big expense.

Prices might eventually come down, but it’s tough to say when. Some say 2028 before the shortage eases up significantly. But then again, it all depends on how many new generations come out and how much production can keep up with demand.

Nope, not looking good for RAM prices anytime soon. People are making bank renting their home PCs for AI tasks, which is a lot like the crypto mining days. Prices are pretty much set now and won't drop below the current levels unless demand changes significantly.
