When Will We Be Able to Create Full-Length Movies or TV Episodes with AI?

Hey everyone! I'm curious about how far we are from generating full-length movies or episodes that last over two hours. Currently, AI can produce only a few seconds of video, but what are the main challenges that are holding us back from creating longer content? Do you think we'll see any breakthroughs in this area within the next year? 😀

If you're asking about remaking a full-length episode of something like Game of Thrones, I’d say we're looking at 5 to 20 years. But for a normal movie-making process, where cuts are often shorter than 30 seconds, we’re closer to 2 to 5 years away from achieving decent quality that you might be able to do at home now.

There are two main breakthroughs needed: First, we need AI to act as autonomous agents capable of handling all the stages of TV episode production, from scriptwriting to editing. The second is improving the tech for generating longer videos consistently—right now, AI can only manage around 2 to 5 minutes of video at once without losing quality or coherence.

I think financial costs will be a major issue too. Even if AI makes production cheaper, individuals could still be looking at thousands of dollars for high-quality results because of the amount of iteration required.

With more development, I believe AI will soon understand emotional engagement in storytelling better, which is essential for creating quality content.

In my opinion, we might be looking at anywhere from 1 week to 12 years before AI can produce something meaningful. Current advancements in text-to-video models are sporadic, and there's a lot of inconsistency right now.

Yeah, and with things changing so fast, it’s hard to predict where we’ll be in just a few years!

Exactly! I think progress is more about bursts than steady improvement right now.

Realistically, AI video and sound sync still have huge gaps to bridge. We might see some impressive clips soon, but a full-length quality film? Probably closer to the end of the decade before that's a real option.

Some people are still skeptical about how far technology actually is. I can see 20-minute episodes coming possibly by the end of this year, but full movies that are consistent and engaging might take longer, maybe more than 5 years.

I struggle with this idea—it seems like we're nowhere near it. Current AI just doesn't have the subtlety needed for good storytelling.

Every big technological leap seems impossible until we find a way. I wouldn’t count it out completely!
