Hey folks, I'm diving into the world of Linux and I'm overwhelmed by all the options available! I'm particularly interested in a beginner-friendly distro that's good for programming, hacking, playing games, and handling daily tasks. I've been leaning towards Ubuntu, but I'm not totally convinced yet. What do you all recommend?

Honestly, Mint is a solid choice for anyone transitioning from Windows. It offers a great out-of-the-box experience, and you can use Lutris to get your games running easily. Once you're comfortable, you can always explore other distros like Arch if you enjoy tweaking things!

Mint is getting a lot of love here, but if you're looking for an Arch-based experience, CachyOS is pretty beginner-friendly too. I started with it and have loved the journey!

Kubuntu LTS worked great for me after switching from Windows 7. It’s user-friendly and stable, so you won’t regret it!

I’d recommend Parrot OS if you're leaning into the hacking side of things, but for a more general use, Linux Mint is definitely beginner-friendly. It’s perfect for daily tasks, and it’s easy to pick up!

If hacking is your goal, start with Mint to get the basics down—then you can work on getting your games running as you learn. You'll gain a lot of knowledge in the process!
