Which CPU Bundle Should I Choose: 7800X3D or 9800X3D?

I'm in the process of upgrading my gaming PC and I'm stuck between two bundles. One option is the 7800X3D paired with a B650 motherboard and 32GB of RAM for $800 CAD. The other is the 9800X3D with an X870 motherboard and the same amount of RAM for $1,100 CAD. I'm leaning towards the 7800X3D because it's significantly cheaper, but I'm open to the 9800X3D if it's worth the extra cost. My gaming is mostly at 1440p with a 7900XT GPU. What do you think?

Honestly, I don’t think the 9800X3D is worth the extra $300 CAD. The performance difference is only around 10%, and at 1440p or even 4K, you'll be more limited by your GPU. The X870 motherboard is indeed better, but unless you're planning to max out with PCIe 5.0 in the future or run multiple M2 drives, I'd say go with the 7800X3D bundle. It’s a much better deal for the performance you'll actually see in games!

So is the X870 significantly better like you said, or is it just a slight performance bump? It sounds confusing!

Thanks for clarifying! I'm really leaning towards the 7800 for that reason. I don’t use a lot of the advanced features on the X870, like extra PCI slots.

Consider getting the 9800X3D to avoid any buyer's remorse later. If you play a lot of CPU-intensive games like Rust or Tarkov, the extra performance could be worth it.

Yeah, after thinking about it more, I'm also leaning towards the 9800X3D for those exact reasons. Better to invest a bit more now!
