Which CPU is Better for Gaming: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X or 7800X3D?

I'm building a gaming PC around an RX 9070 XT, and I'm trying to decide between the AMD Ryzen 7 9700X (8C/16T, Zen5) and the Ryzen 7 7800X3D (8C/16T, featuring 3D V-Cache). My main priorities include gaming at 1440p with high refresh rates for titles like Forza Horizon 5, Fortnite, and Roblox. I plan to keep this PC until around 2030, and while I don't need heavy video editing capabilities, I will be casual streaming and multitasking. There's only a $20 difference in price, with the 9700X being slightly cheaper. Given my use case, which CPU would provide better gaming performance with my GPU? Is the 3D V-Cache worth the extra cost? Additionally, are there any motherboard or RAM compatibility concerns I should be aware of for the AM5 platform?

The 7800X3D is definitely the better choice of the two for gaming. It performs better across the board, especially for the games you mentioned, and it can handle streaming and multitasking with no issues. The $20 more for the X3D is a good investment because of its 3D V-Cache, which significantly boosts gaming performance. As for compatibility, you shouldn't run into any major problems. Just make sure to stick to 2 RAM sticks instead of 4 for better stability—AM5 can get a little tricky with 4 sticks sometimes.

If you're primarily focused on gaming, the 7800X3D can be up to 30% faster. As long as you avoid a low-end motherboard, you'll be good to go. For memory, I'd recommend a 2x16GB setup at 6000 CL30 if you can swing it; if that's pricey, then 6000 CL36 works too. Just keep in mind that fast RAM helps a lot, especially if you ever consider overclocking.
