I'm looking to upgrade my CPU and I'm caught between the AMD Ryzen 5700X and the 5700X3D. I'm limited to the AM4 platform for now and need a CPU that works well with my B450M Mortar Max motherboard. My main focus is gaming, especially with titles like Genshin Impact and various indie games, so I have a few questions: 1. Is the extra $140 for the 5700X3D worth it? 2. Will the 5700X meet my gaming needs? 3. Is the 5700X a good match for my GPU, the 9060XT with 16GB? With the 5700X priced at $220 and 5700X3D at $360, I'm also keeping an eye on both performance and budget before making my decision.

If you're questioning whether to spend over $100 more for the X3D, you probably don't need it. It's nice to have, but not essential unless you have a budget that allows for it.

I'd say get the 5700X3D.

A 5700X can get you about 90% of the performance of the X3D while costing almost half as much. It won't bottleneck your GPU, especially at 1440p. If you're just playing Genshin Impact, you could even consider the 5600X.

Yes, the $140 difference is justified for online and poorly optimized games, but since you’re not focused on AAA titles, the 5700X should suffice for your needs. It pairs well with the 9060XT too!

The 5700X works perfectly fine with the 9060XT 16GB, but it really depends on the games you play. For heavy titles like Microsoft Flight Simulator, the X3D would definitely be worth the investment. For lighter gaming, the 5700X is adequate.

If gaming is your main priority, go for the 5700X3D. It offers better performance, especially in demanding scenarios. For general use, both CPUs are solid, but the 5700X3D has the edge in gaming.
