Which CPU Should I Choose: i9-11900F or i7-11700KF for My Build?

Hey everyone! I'm currently using a B560 motherboard that doesn't support CPU overclocking, and I'm looking to upgrade from my i3-10105F. I originally built this PC during the COVID lockdown for online classes and gaming, but now I want to repurpose it for some CFD applications and light gaming. I'm trying to decide between the i9-11900F and i7-11700KF, especially since they're priced similarly in my country at around $200. Will the i9-11900F be able to match the clock speeds of the i7-11700KF under heavy loads, even without overclocking?

If your board can handle it, a used i9-10850K could be a great option since it has more cores. But finding one may be tricky in some places.

Yeah, I've looked, but they're pretty rare around here. I did find one brand new, but it's way over my budget at $350.

Consider exploring AM4 options and the new Intel 12th gen CPUs. I'm in a similar upgrade situation, and I'm leaning toward getting a 5600 or 5700X with a B550 board instead. The 5600 usually outshines the 10th and 11th gen i7s and is more efficient. Check out what's available in your area!

After realizing my current board would throttle with anything above the i5-11600, I'm actually thinking about the 12700KF since it’s about $200 too, but I’d need new RAM and a motherboard with that.

Just keep in mind that moving to the 5600 would be more of a sidegrade from the i5-10400. Might not be the best choice.

You should definitely check out some hardware roundups on YouTube, especially from Hardware Unboxed. It's important to know that your B560 board might struggle to handle the i9. Just a heads up!

Thanks for the tip! I wasn't sure about my board's limits; it’s a Gigabyte B560M DS3H, and I've heard it's not the best. Maybe I need to consider cooling solutions or think about a 12th gen upgrade instead.

No problem! Just make sure to do some research on cooling options to avoid VRM throttling!
