I'm trying to decide between the AMD Ryzen 5 9600X and the Intel i5-14600KF for my next build. I've watched some videos and noticed that their performance seems quite similar. What's tipping me toward Intel is the LGA 1700 socket which supports more affordable DDR4 motherboards. On the other hand, the 9600X needs an AM5 motherboard and DDR5 RAM, which is pretty pricey right now but also newer tech. I'm also concerned about potential heat issues with either CPU. Any thoughts on which could be the better choice?

When looking at benchmarks for the i5-14600K, keep in mind that they are usually run with DDR5, and performance drops noticeably on DDR4, especially in modern games. The cheaper option is DDR4, but it's not always the better performer with Raptor Lake.
If you're wanting to save some cash or need better multicore performance, go for the 14600KF. However, if you're okay spending a bit more and looking for better upgrade options, the 9600X is solid.
Opt for the most affordable RAM you can find, but remember that the 14600KF will perform 5-15% worse with DDR4. If you don’t have RAM yet, it might be worth investing the extra money for an AM5 setup with DDR5 for better future-proofing.

Exactly! If you're gaming, the performance shouldn’t differ much with the 14600 when using DDR4, but long-term, DDR5 could pay off.
