I've recently upgraded to a 1440p ultrawide monitor, and I'm noticing around a 20% performance dip. I'm considering upgrading my CPU to improve frame generation performance with my GeForce 5070. I've been looking at the Ryzen 7800X3D—what do you recommend for pairing with my setup?

First off, check if your CPU is actually bottlenecking your performance. If it’s not, an upgrade might not make a significant difference. High resolutions can shift the load more to the GPU, so consider looking at that first. Also, test different configurations; sometimes just getting more VRAM can help more than a CPU upgrade.

Yeah, my CPU is indeed bottlenecking during some games, so I feel moving to a better CPU could help me maximize performance. I'm looking to bring back the smooth experience I had on my old 1440p 27-inch setup.

The 7800X3D is an excellent choice if you can find it for a good price. Right now where I live, it isn’t much more expensive than the 9800X3D, which you might also want to consider. Both CPUs fit the same socket, so it mainly comes down to how long you plan to use it. If you're mainly gaming in 4K like me with an i5-9600K, you might be fine for a bit longer, but the 5800X3D is another great option while waiting for the next-gen chips. Just remember, if CPU-bound games start causing issues, the frame generation might struggle to keep up.

Just a heads up, the 7800X3D and 9800X3D have similar specs, but the 9800 has a slight edge in efficiency and features like being fully unlocked for overclocking. It’s just something to think about if you want to future-proof a bit more!
