Which CPU Should I Upgrade To for Optimal Gaming?

I built my PC around 7 or 8 years ago, and I'm finally looking to upgrade since it feels really outdated. My main focus is on games from Paradox, which usually require a strong CPU. Here are my current specs: Intel Core i7-7700 CPU, Nvidia GTX 1080 GPU, Maximus IX Hero motherboard, and 32 GB of RAM. I checked a PC spec site, and it suggested the i9-9900k, but I see that's been replaced by the i9-14900k. Is the i9-14900k a good pick? Is there a better alternative that would work with my existing motherboard?

It looks like you're already using the best processor your motherboard can support. If you want an upgrade, you’ll need to buy a new motherboard as well.

Wait, so does that mean I'd have to switch out a bunch of parts to make any upgrade happen?
