Which CPU Upgrade Should I Choose?

I'm currently running a Ryzen 3 2200G with 24GB of DDR4 RAM and an RX 580. I'm looking to upgrade my CPU and I'm torn between getting a Ryzen 7 7800X3D or spending an extra $130 to go for a 9800X3D. I plan on upgrading to an RX 7900 XTX in the future. I've heard the 9800X3D will have virtually no bottleneck while the 7800X3D might see a slight 2-5% performance drop in terms of frames. What do you all think?

Both options are solid CPUs, but consider whether those extra frames justify the price hike. A slight performance gain for a significant price increase doesn't always make sense. If you're looking at future-proofing, you might also want to think about how well those games utilize the CPU. Also, if you're gaming at 4K, CPU choice matters even less. Maybe just wait and see what's on the horizon with the next Zen release!

Just to throw in my two cents, both CPUs will work fine since you're moving to the AM5 platform. If you want more budget flexibility, the 7800X3D is still very capable. Plus, let’s face it, obsessing over minuscule bottlenecks is a never-ending game. Just enjoy the upgrade!

I'd say definitely go for the 7800X3D! It sounds like a solid pick for your build, especially if you're planning on upgrading your GPU soon, since it pairs well with the RX 7900 XTX. No point in overspending for minimal gains!

Honestly, I think the 7800X3D is the better option for the price difference. Those bottleneck calculators aren't super reliable, and the small performance hit with the 7800X3D is usually not noticeable in real-world gaming. Why not save some cash?

Thanks for the input! That makes sense.

If budget isn't a constraint, the 7800X3D paired with a high-end GPU will serve you well. The RX 580 will hold you back a bit, so planning for that upgrade is smart! Just be careful not to waste your funds on the CPU if you can invest in the GPU instead!

Great point! I'm more focused on getting the processing power first before diving into a new GPU.
