Which Drive Format Allows Dots in File Names Without Changing Them?

I'm trying to transfer files from my Steam Deck to an external drive, but I noticed that files with dots in their names are being renamed to have underscores instead. My drive is formatted as NTFS, and I want the original file names to remain intact. Is there a drive format that supports dots in file names without altering them?

Dots in file names can sometimes cause issues, especially when transferring between different operating systems like Linux and Windows. In Linux, files that start with a dot are hidden by default, but this shouldn’t affect how they’re copied. If you’re getting a popup about unsupported formats, double-check that your drive is indeed formatted correctly as NTFS. This format should support dots as well. It might be a translation problem between the systems, so consider manually renaming them back after transfer if necessary.

I’ve noticed something similar when moving files. It switched them to underscores too, but when I went back and checked, they were just hidden on the Steam Deck. So, maybe it’s just a visualization issue.
