Which GPU Should I Choose for 1440p Gaming: RTX 5070 or RX 7800 XT?

I'm trying to decide between the RTX 5070 and the RX 7800 XT for my gaming rig, specifically for 1440p AAA gaming. My setup includes an AMD 5 7600x processor, 32GB of RAM, and a B650M AM5 motherboard. I'm a bit torn because the 7800 XT has 16GB of VRAM which sounds appealing, but I've heard great things about NVIDIA's DLSS technology. Also, the price difference is only $28 in my area between the two cards. Is that extra VRAM on the 7800 XT really worth it, and will it help future-proof my build? My budget is between $480-$500.

I’d say go for the RTX 5070. It outperforms the 7800 XT in almost every aspect, except for VRAM. And keep in mind, most games don’t actually utilize that much VRAM unless you’re pushing really high settings with ray tracing on. With DLSS, the 5070 is also better for managing performance at lower graphical settings, making it a solid long-term investment.

Yeah, I agree! VRAM is nice, but if the 5070 can run games better overall, it’s probably the smarter choice.

If I were you, I'd definitely lean towards the 5070. The performance outweighs the theoretical benefits of having more VRAM on the 7800 XT. Future-proofing is a good thought, but the 5070 has the edge right now.

Thanks for the input! That’s what I was thinking too. Just want to make sure I'm making a good choice as I’m new to building PCs!

Honestly, the 5070 is just a better card for the price. The 7800 XT might have more VRAM, but it can’t deliver the performance that’s really needed to utilize that extra memory. At just $30 more for the 5070, it’s a no-brainer!
