Which is better: Ryzen 9 5900XT or Intel 12th-14th Gen for DDR4?

I have a Ryzen 5 5500 that I'm planning to hand down to my son to upgrade his PC, which currently has an i5 from the 4th generation. I'm considering whether to get him a Ryzen 9 5900XT or go with an Intel processor from the 12th to 14th generation. Since I already have some spare DDR4 RAM, I intend to stick with that. What would be the better choice?

If you're sticking with DDR4, I'd say go with an Intel processor from the 12th generation like LGA1700. They generally outperform AM4 boards in that set-up, but remember, you'd need a new motherboard too.

I recommend considering an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D. It's a beast for games like Tarkov and editing. Might be tricky to find, especially in Canada, but worth hunting down.

Honestly, the Ryzen 9 5900XT is a solid option. Finding good DDR4 motherboards for Intel's LGA1700 can be tough, so you might run into issues unless you're okay with potential extra costs. Plus, 5900XT should handle gaming and editing just fine.
