I'm looking for suggestions on a Linux distribution for my PC. It's equipped with an HDD, has 4 GB of RAM, an Intel i3 5005U processor, and Intel HD Graphics 5500. I'm concerned about my younger brother using it, as he's new to Linux and might need something that looks nice and runs smoothly on this setup. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Linux Mint is a solid choice. It's user-friendly and has a nice interface that’s good for beginners. Plus, it runs well on your specs without too much hassle.
If you're leaning towards Linux Mint, I suggest using the XFCE or MATE edition since they’re lighter on resources compared to the default Cinnamon. It'll help with the performance on your machine. Also, if possible, switching the HDD to an SSD later on would boost the speed significantly!
I’ve had great experiences with Lubuntu. It's designed for older systems and easy to use, making it a good fit for someone who's just starting out with Linux.
Avoid distros with Gnome or KDE since they can be heavy for 4 GB of RAM. Stick to XFCE or MATE for a smoother experience. MX Linux with XFCE can work really well too, though it's not the prettiest. If you can upgrade to 8GB of RAM eventually, that opens up more options like Zorin or even the full version of Mint.
