I'm interested in switching to Linux, mainly because I do most of my work in a browser. I'm curious to know which distribution has the most customizable graphical user interface (GUI). I understand that technically, you can customize any distro, but as a newcomer, I'm looking for one that has built-in options to make this easier. Any recommendations?

Most distributions can work with various desktop environments. For easier setup, I’d recommend using a package manager that ensures compatibility, like Aptitude in Debian-based distros. XFCE is super customizable too, and while everything is possible, some setups can be a bit tricky and may require managing several config files.

If you prioritize performance over visual effects, consider XFCE. It’s lightweight and allows for lots of customization without hogging your system's resources.

What you’re asking about is really linked to the desktop environment (DE) rather than the distro itself. KDE is probably your best bet for customization, while GNOME is easier but has some limitations. Also, switching between KDE and GNOME can be done without reinstalling anything or losing your files, which is cool! Enjoy exploring!

Absolutely, customization is largely dependent on your desktop environment. KDE Plasma stands out as the top choice, and you can find it in most distros. I’ve switched to Kubuntu recently and have been really happy with it. If you spend most of your time in a browser, KDE’s Dolphin file manager is a fantastic tool!

KDE is widely regarded as one of the most customizable desktop environments available. It’s less about the specific distribution and more about the DE you choose. You can dive deep into the settings and tweaks if you're into that sort of thing, so really, it’s about how far down the rabbit hole you want to go.
