I'm transitioning from Windows 11 to using Linux full-time on my laptop. I've narrowed my options down to Debian-based distributions, specifically Ubuntu or Mint, but I'd love to hear recommendations or insights from experienced users. Here are my laptop specs for consideration:
- Model: Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15IGL7
- Processor: Intel Pentium Silver N5030 (4 cores, 4 threads) at 1.10 GHz
- RAM: 4 GB
- BIOS: UEFI, latest version as of July 2024.
Any advice on which distro would suit my needs best would be greatly appreciated!

Choosing between Mint and Ubuntu really comes down to personal preference. Both are great for everyday use, so I suggest trying them both to see which one you like better!
I think Mint is the easiest 'just works' distro out there. While Ubuntu is perfectly fine, it has some quirky features that might not appeal to everyone. It’s worth checking out some comparisons between Mint and Ubuntu to see what suits you better since they’re pretty similar overall – largely differing in the desktop environment.
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve actually downloaded both to try them out.
