Which Linux Distro Offers Legacy Driver Support for Older Nvidia GPUs?

I'm looking for a Linux distribution that can automatically download drivers similar to what Linux Mint or Manjaro offer. I have an Nvidia Geforce 405 card, and I've been on the hunt for a suitable distro to support it but haven't had much luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Big Linux has a dedicated tool for downloading drivers, and it's a neat distro overall. You should consider it if you're looking for user-friendly options after installation.

If you're okay with doing a bit of setup, Arch Linux is a great choice. It allows you to choose from different Nvidia driver versions during the installation process. I recently set it up on an older Quadro card, and it worked well with proprietary drivers and X11.

Debian Unstable is your best bet as it still includes the legacy drivers for older Nvidia cards like yours. Although the Stable version has dropped support, you can find the 340 version you need in Unstable. Just install Debian Testing and add the Unstable repositories with the nonfree section included, where the Nvidia drivers are located.

Check out CachyOS as they still maintain support for legacy drivers. It might be worth a look, especially if you prefer a system that's based on LTS or rolling.

Just a heads up—if you manage to get the Nvidia v340 drivers working, keep in mind that your GPU won't support Vulkan, so using DXVK for gaming won't be an option.
