I've recently started using MintOS alongside Windows, and while I'm enjoying it, I feel like I'm missing out on the true Linux experience. I primarily use Windows for gaming and casual activities, but I'm considering transitioning my Linux environment to something that better supports my interests in programming and game development. I'm thinking about Ubuntu since it seems popular for these tasks, but I'm open to suggestions. What would be the best Linux distribution for programming and game development, considering my background?

Remember that the best distro is really the one you enjoy using. Don’t hesitate to try a few until you find one that clicks for you. Each has its own strengths, but you can turn almost any Linux distro into a great development environment.

Consider trying Arch Linux or its user-friendly variant, Manjaro. It’ll give you a more involved and customizable experience. If you're interested in diving deep into the system, Arch has a learning curve but can be really rewarding. Also, using containers for development might be beneficial.

You're on the right track with Ubuntu! Linux Mint is actually based on Ubuntu, so you’re already familiar with the core aspects. If you want to keep it simple, just install Visual Studio Code and you'll be ready to start coding! Godot is a great engine for game development that works well on both Ubuntu and Mint.

If you're up for exploring other options, Fedora is an excellent choice too. It's modern and great for developers. Plus, Ultramarine Linux offers a sleek transition to Fedora with a familiarity that Mint users might appreciate.

If you're looking for a solid option for both programming and game development, Ubuntu and PopOS would be my picks. They come with great hardware support and tools needed for development right out of the box.
