Hey folks! I'm diving into the world of Linux as my daily operating system and I'm stuck on which distro to choose for my dual-boot setup on my ASUS TUF laptop with an 11th gen i5, 16GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA 3050 Ti graphics card. I mainly use my laptop for web browsing, research, and a little bit of gaming. For browsing, I use LibreWolf, so I doubt I'll have issues there. For research, I rely on Excel, Visual Studio for Python coding, and SPSS for statistical analysis, but since those won't run on Linux, I'm looking for alternatives. I plan to replace Excel with LibreOffice and switch to R for my analysis, so I'd like programs that can handle both R and Python or good alternatives for them. As for gaming, I mainly play modded Minecraft using various launchers and a few other games. I've heard Bazzite is more gaming-oriented, but I'm curious if it has any noticeable impact on performance for my other tasks, especially with modded Minecraft. Given all this, which distro is better suited for a beginner like me?

From my experience, Bazzite has the NVIDIA drivers pre-installed, which can make your gaming experience smoother right out of the box. You can definitely install them on Mint as well, but it might take a bit more effort. As for your research tools, Visual Studio Code is available on Linux, and R has its own IDE, R Studio. When it comes to gaming, Bazzite tends to have a slight edge in performance, but overall, you shouldn’t see major compatibility issues with Minecraft or your other tasks. Most of what you're doing can be handled pretty well on either distro!
That makes sense! Do you think there are any downsides to using Bazzite, though?
